Ján Hajnal (SK)
Košice-born Ján Hajnal is one of the leading Slovak pianists and musicians generally responsible for establishing Slovak jazz. It must be clear to anyone hearing the first few tones of his concerts or recordings that his feeling for music stems from the jazz tradition and lives in the modern jazz mainstream, but then again he doesn’t shy away from overlapping with classical and trad-folk music either. He transforms this synthesis of inspiring sources into a unique, very personal, transparently readable text comprising both covered and original compositions. He recorded the solo album Bartók‘s Room for Hevhetia Records in 2016.
His latest album entitled “Dedication“ comes out on the very day of his concert here, recorded as a trio together with vibraphone-player Wolfgang Lackerschmid and saxophonist Gerd Dudek.
